New Charity-funded Garden Suite opens for bereaved families on maternity unit

Today (Thursday 9 October) a vital space for bereaved families within Croydon University Hospital’s maternity unit reopened following a refurbishment funded by our Croydon Health Charity.
The Garden Suite will provide a comforting and private space close to our maternity teams for families who have experienced pregnancy loss.
The official reopening was marked at an event today to mark the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week and brought together staff, families and organisations such as Croydon Maternity Voices Partnership and charity supporters.
The Suite’s interior and garden were upgraded to include new flooring, furnishings, landscaping, plants and trees.
In partnership with bereaved families the project was led by Hannah Lloyd, Pregnancy Loss Specialist Midwife, and funded by generous donations from Inspiration Healthcare and Royal Parks Half Marathon fundraisers.
Volunteers made a valuable contribution to the project and helped to transform the outside space.
Research and best-practice in bereavement care tell us that environment matters: privacy, nature, calm, dignity all contribute to helping families at their most vulnerable.
The Garden Suite complements the Trust’s existing bereavement services and support including the annual Butterfly Service for Baby Loss which takes place this Sunday.
Thank you to everyone who attended the event today.
