Introducing automatic number plate recognition parking at Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital
A new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system is being introduced at both Croydon University Hospital (CUH) and Purley War Memorial Hospital (PWMH) to make parking simpler, safer, and more efficient for staff and visitors.
What is ANPR?
ANPR uses cameras to record vehicle number plates as they enter and leave hospital car parks. This technology improves car park management and security by automating vehicle monitoring, helping ensure fair use of spaces and reducing congestion.
Why we’re introducing ANPR
The new system will:
- Improve parking efficiency – by automatically monitoring entry and exit times and reducing misuse of bays.
- Enhance security and safety – providing 24/7 monitoring and accurate records of vehicles on site.
- Support better planning – through data insights on parking use and peak times.
- Simplify payment – integrating directly with digital payment methods.
Payment methods
ANPR links directly with several easy-to-use payment options. Staff and visitors can now pay using:
- The NewPark Trust App
- Downloadable from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Once registered, Permit Holders can pay for parking sessions or activate Auto Pay — your parking charge is processed automatically when you leave, so there’s no need to remember to pay each day.
- The app also allows you to view payment history and manage multiple vehicles.
- Virtual Pay Stations
- Scan the QR code displayed on signage within the car park to make quick, secure payments online.
- Pay-on-Exit Machines
- Available at Croydon University Hospital for those who prefer to pay by card or contactless before leaving.
The SABA app will still be available for permit holders wishing to pay for their parking this way.
Staff parking at CUH and PWMH
Croydon University Hospital: Staff parking is available to those with authorised permits. Daily parking charges for eligible permit holders can be paid automatically through the app.
Purley War Memorial Hospital: There is no dedicated staff parking. Staff using this site must pay at the advertised visitor rates, using any of the above payment methods.
Auto pay for permit holders
Permit holders in eligible categories who register for Auto Pay via the NewPark Trust app will be automatically charged upon exit, preventing accidental Parking Charge Notices (PCNs) for missed payments or incorrect vehicle entries.
Keeping our sites safe
ANPR will be supported by the Trust’s parking contractor.
We wish to thank all staff and visitors for their cooperation as we transition to this improved parking system.
