Rainbow Children's Unit

new PIU rainbow unit

Welcome to The Rainbow Children’s Unit. This state-of-the-art facility allows the Trust to provide more complex care for up to 40 children and young patients, their families and our own staff.

The unit houses a medical and surgical ward, as well as a short stay unit. Family members can find comfort in the relaxation rooms or keep their children occupied in the multiple play space and playground areas provided, funded by the Trust’s dedicated charity. The unit also includes the addition of a brand-new critical care unit and children’s cancer unit.

With the help of our dedicated charity, Croydon Health Charity, and Chartwell Cancer Trust, the construction of this unit has been made possible. Both organisations have raised money in order to fund the work which will help to improve the service we provide to those who need it most in our community. To find out more about their contribution, please see below.

Charity contribution

Our dedicated charity supports patients across the Trust, including children and young people, by funding additional resources and equipment that enhance services. With play being such a magical, universal language Croydon Health Charity is proud to support such a vital new service.

The charity led the ‘Power of Play’ appeal which is funding play and therapeutic facilities, including outside climbing walls, and play towers which are due to open in July 2022. These new facilities will give patients and their family members a more enjoyable experience while receiving care at our hospital.

The campaign to raise £150,000 has involved hosting events and working with a fabulous range of supporters to bring play to life at the Rainbow Children's Unit.
