A to Z of services

The Wheelchair Service has now transferred over to London Borough of Croydon (LBC).

The move was a joint decision between NHS Croydon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and the Trust and means the London Borough of Croydon is now the sole provider of wheelchairs to Croydon residents; they are also responsible for wheelchair care and maintenance.

London Borough of Croydon already provide other adaptive services to those who need them in Croydon through its Community Equipment Service (CES), such as hoists, ramps and handle bars so service users may already be aware of them.

Bringing together wheelchairs with other equipment services will enable the service to be quicker and simpler to use. The service is still provided from the same location re: The Aztec centre, 28 Boulogne Road, Croydon, CR0 2QT.

Although the provider of the wheelchair service has changed it remains an NHS service and all wheelchairs, fittings and repairs will continue to be supplied free of charge to patients who require a specialist wheelchair.

All CHS staff currently working for the wheelchair services have been offered the opportunity to move across to CES, helping to retain the knowledge and expertise presently in the team.  

Any personal details of service users currently held at Croydon Health Services will be automatically transferred over to London Borough of Croydon to ensure a seamless transfer of their care and in compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) - which was fully implemented into law on 25th May 2018 to strengthen the protection of personal identifiable information by:

•  Processing personal information fairly and lawfully - only using it if we have a lawful reason; and when we do, we make sure people know how we intend to use it and tell them about your rights.
•  We rely on specific provisions under Article 6 and 9 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which sets the range of purposes for which personal data can be lawfully processed, and the associated “special categories” respectively. We worked closely with GPs and other health professionals who refer residents to the wheelchair services to make the transition as smooth as possible for new users.
