A specialist community children’s hearing service treating hearing loss and/or balance disorders

Service overview
Testing of hearing of children from age 7 months of age to 18 years of age, using a variety of age and developmentally appropriate tests
Dedicated sound proof test rooms using the most up to date testing equipment and hearing aids available
Fitting and regularly monitoring children with a confirmed hearing loss and those wearing hearing aids, from birth until 18 years of age.
Investigation into the cause of permanent hearing loss
Close links with local specialist education service for children with hearing impairment
Work closely and run joint clinics with consultant paediatric ENT surgeons
Specialist paediatric audiologists (Clinical scientists (Audiology))
Specialist audiovestibular physician looking into the cause of hearing, balance and tinnitus problems.
We treat
Hearing loss both temporary and permanent in children, fitting hearing aids and monitoring permanent and temporary problems. We also rule out hearing loss in children with additional needs, e.g. speech and language delay, autism, complex needs, Down’s syndrome
Referral criteria
Children with a GP within Croydon CCG.
