Our World Hand Hygiene Day Celebrations

For World Hand Hygiene Day, our Infection Prevention and Control team hosted our annual hand hygiene awareness event, in the main reception of CUH today.
The focus of the day this year is that effective hand hygiene reduces health care associated infections, such as sepsis.
Juliana Kotey, Lead Nurse, Infection Prevention and Control said: “It is important to remind staff how to effectively clean their hands, as prevention of infection is much better than cure.
“We must all ensure we wash our hands properly to prevent healthcare associated infections.”
Healthcare associated infections, such as sepsis is estimated to affect more than 30 million patients every year worldwide.
Infection prevention and control is everyone’s responsibility.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) co-ordinates the annual World Hand Hygiene Day, which will take place on 5 May around the world.
Our senior staff, including John Goulston our CEO (top right) and Michael Fanning Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (top left) with members of our Infection Prevention and Control Team and other staff members were on hand yesterday to support the day.
