Croydon Health Services NHS Trust welcomes Dr Gemma Hurley as new Non-Executive Director

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Gemma Hurley as a new Non-Executive Director on its Board.

Dr Hurley, who is also a registered nurse and midwife, brings more than 38 years of experience in nursing and healthcare leadership to the Trust and has first hand experience working on Croydon’s own NHS frontline.

Having focussed much of her career on advanced clinical practice and service development, Gemma’s recent work with the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) on the Health Sciences Benchmark Statement review and her Senior Fellowship at the Higher Education Academy not only reflect her commitment to upholding strategic governance but will also continue to bolster the Trust’s own quality improvement journey.

Recognised by the Queen’s Nursing Institute for her long-standing service, Gemma has also led and supported a range of healthcare education programmes, helping to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals to meet the needs of diverse communities.

Dr Hurley has consistently championed person-centred care, prevention, and community engagement, as well as her extensive clinical and academic expertise will bring a valuable perspective to the Trust Board.

Yemisi Gibbons, Chair of Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr Gemma Hurley to the Board. Her wealth of experience and longstanding commitment to compassionate, high quality care will be a real asset to Croydon. I know that her insights and leadership will help us continue to improve the services we provide to local people.”

Dr Hurley joins the Trust as Paulette Lewis MBE steps down from her role as Non-Executive Director.

During her time as Non-Executive Director over the past six years, Paulette made a significant impact; championing equity and inclusion, helping strengthen links with local communities, and supporting the development of our workforce and clinical services and most recently championing the Trust’s maternity services and supporting their efforts to improve access and care standards for new families.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Paulette for her exceptional service and dedication to local people, not only as a member of the Trust Board but also her sustained efforts in working with Croydon’s local voluntary and community groups, as Chair of Croydon BME Forum.

Her passion for improving outcomes for the people of Croydon has left a lasting legacy, and she leaves with our warmest wishes and gratitude.
