Our Emergency Department is recruiting!

We are looking for talented and enthusiastic colleagues to join our brand new, friendly and progressive emergency department.

Whether you are a junior doctor, emergency medicine specialty doctor or consultant, we would like to hear from you.

About our emergency department

We are looking for keen, hardworking medical professionals to come and work at Croydon Health Services in London's newest Emergency Department. Based at Croydon University Hospital, the building cost more than £21million to construct and offers modern, high-quality facilities. It has been designed by our doctors and nurses to create the best environment in which to care for patients.

The department is 30 percent bigger than our previous Emergency Department and offers many benefits including a dementia-friendly design and rooms with doors, rather than curtained cubicles, to increase privacy for patients.

There are two separate paediatric waiting areas - one for children under 12 and the other for adolescents - plus an outdoor space and nine paediatric patient rooms where they can receive care.

There are also two mental health liaison rooms offering private and appropriate spaces where nurses can assess people who need specialist care, plus a dedicated Child and Adolescent Mental Health liaison room.

In addition the Emergency Department building includes a new Urgent Treatment Centre with six consultation rooms and a treatment room where people with more minor ailments can be looked after by qualified staff.

It first provided care on 2 December 2018, replacing the temporary Emergency Department, and now sees about 400 patients each day - nearly 29,000 in its first four months of opening (Dec 2018 - March 2019). The department was officially opened by Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care in May 2019.

Who are we looking for?

Anyone wanting to work in an Emergency Department must be attracted the the fast pace and challenges that it will bring. At Croydon we see patients with a wide range of illnesses and injuries - so you really do have to be ready for anything. But the variety and rewards are exciting and you'll experience things that you won't do in many other trusts.
