Croydon Health Services among the best in London on waiting times for treatment and suspected cancer.

Croydon Health Services is among the top three acute trusts in London for how long people have to wait to start treatment or see a specialist about suspected cancer.

New data published by NHS England shows that in June this year, 93.1 percent of patients who were referred to Croydon Health Services NHS Trust for consultant-led elective (planned) care waited less than 18 weeks.

This places the Trust above the national average for the third month in a row and at third position among the capital’s 18 acute trusts on Referral to Treatment Times (RTT).

The Trust is also at third position among London acute trusts on waiting times for people with suspected cancer with 98.32 percent of people seeing a specialist within two weeks. This is above the England average of 91.10 percent.

CHS additionally performed well on the standard that all patients urgently referred by their GP for should start cancer treatment within 62 days. During April, the CHS held the top position among London acute trusts for its 62 day performance, and was third in the capital during May and June.

Melissa Morris, Director of Operations (Planned Care) at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, said: “We are very proud of our staff whose hard work has ensured this excellent and consistent performance in Croydon.

“When people are referred to hospital for treatment or with suspected cancer, we know it can be an anxious time, so we always try to see people as soon as possible.

“Not everyone realises the wide range of specialities we have here at Croydon and that they can often be seen and treated here much more quickly than at other hospitals in London or elsewhere in the country."

The Referral to Treatment Time statistics are also broken down into different specialities. During June, for general medicine, neurology and geriatric medicine 100 percent of people who had been referred to Croydon Health Services for treatment by their GP were waiting less than 18 weeks. On this measure during June, both urology and rheumatology achieved 99.4 percent, general surgery 97 percent, dermatology 93.7 percent, gastroenterology 96.35 percent and gynaecology 92.95 percent.

By comparison, across all providers in England, the average performance in June for those waiting to start treatment for general medicine was 91.8 percent, neurology 87.4 percent, geriatric medicine 95.9 percent, urology 86.2 percent, rheumatology 92.3 percent, general surgery 84.2 percent, dermatology 91.9 percent, gastroenterology 90.2 percent and gynaecology 88.9 percent.
