About us

Croydon University Hospital offers a comprehensive, Consultant-led gynaecology service 

Service overview

Outpatient clinics are situated on the ground floor in the Woodcroft Wing (Click for map) at Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital.

Early pregnancy, colposcopy and outpatient hysteroscopy services are provided in a new purpose built Women’s Unit located in the Woodcroft Wing (Click for map)

Inpatient services are provided at Queen’s 1 and Fairfield 2 wards (Click for map).

We treat

We are experienced in providing both medical and surgical management for gynaecological conditions. 

Service specialty

The outpatient procedures are provided in the purpose built “Women’s Health Unit” are.

  • Hysteroscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic)
  • Coil retrieval
  • Drainage of Bartholin’s cyst under local anaesthetic
  • Vulval biopsy
  • Complex coil insertion
  • Excision of vulval skin tag and cyst

The following day case procedures are provided in the Day Surgery Unit located in the orange wing

  • Hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic (diagnostic and therapeutic)
  • Diagnostic laparoscopic
  • Laparoscopic coil retrieval
  • Complex coil insertion
  • Laparoscopic oophorectomy and ovarian cystectomy
  • Endometrial ablation
  • Transcervical resection of polyps and fibroids

Inpatient procedures:

  • Endometrial ablation (a surgical treatment for heavy periods)
  • Fibroid embolisation (a non-surgical way of treating fibroids in the womb)
  • Myomectomy (surgical removal of fibroids)
  • Hysterectomy (Open and Laparoscopic)

Referral criteria

This service offers appointments for the women with benign gynaecological conditions such as:

  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Fibroid uterus
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Menopause
  • Sterilisation
  • Complex contraception advise
  • Psychosexual counseling
  • Vaginal and vulval cysts
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Lost coils
  • Adenomyosis
  • Dysmenorrhea
  • Paediatric and adolescent gynaecological disorders
  • Benign vulval disorders / vulval dystrophy
  • Cervical polyps/lesions
