About us

Service overview

Our Endometriosis Centre is recognised as a Centre of Excellence providing high quality care and treatment for women with endometriosis.

The endometriosis centre is made up of a multidisciplinary team with extensive experience and knowledge in providing high quality and evidence based care for women with endometriosis.

It is one of specialist centres accredited by the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE).

The team consists of two gynaecologist, both experts in the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis, an endometriosis fellow, a colorectal surgeon, urologist, radiologist, anaesthetist (interest in pain management and a nurse specialist.

We offer a range of treatment options including pain management, hormonal treatment, and surgical treatment including laparoscopic excision of endometriosis, hysterectomy and oophorectomy depending on your individual circumstances.

Surgical treatment of severe endometriosis needs to be performed by a gynaecologist with additional skills in advanced laparoscopic procedures performed in a centre with access to other experienced surgeons (Colorectal surgeon and Urologist) with the appropriate expertise.

We understand the physical, psychological and emotional burden of chronic pelvic pain and you will have support from the endometriosis nurse specialist and chronic pain team.

We also offer a telephone advice line and there are patient self-help groups including Endometriosis UK, Acendo and HealthUnlocked.

The centre now has a fellowship programme with an active research and audit programme.

We treat

We treat women with all stages of endometriosis including mild, moderate  and Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis (DIE) forms involving the bowel and bladder.

Endometriosis Clinics - Four weekly Consultant led clinics are available for women with Endometriosis at Croydon University Hospital.

Endometriosis nurse specialist clinic - We provide a nurse specialist clinic where the nurse specialist assesses the patient, initiates conservative management and diagnostics. Within our approved care pathways, patients can come directly to a dedicated nurse-led clinic and follow up appointments are with the consultant. This has made a significant impact on waiting time, outpatient appointments and improve patient journey.

Multidisciplinary team meetings – We have a monthly multidisciplinary meeting attended by the gynecologist, radiologist, colorectal surgeon, urologist, anesthetist and nurse specialist.
