Stroke and TIA services

Croydon Health Services has a dedicated expert stroke team made up of consultants, doctors, nurses, therapists and social workers that provide specialist services to stroke patients.

The stroke team support and care for patients following a stroke who may require rehabilitation.  Each stroke is different, and depending on the severity and the area of the brain affected rehabilitation will be varied for different patient.

GPs can make direct and rapid referrals for patient with a suspected TIA (transient ischaemic attack) or "mini stroke".  TIAs can cause symptoms similar to those of stroke, such as speech and visual disturbance and numbness or weakness in the arms and legs.  The effects only last for a few minutes and are usually fully resolved within 24 hours.
