Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a six week programme of individualised exercises and informal education, which helps people with chronic lung disease, usually Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), manage their illness. This includes reducing levels of breathlessness on activity, increasing their walking distance, managing their lung disease more effectively and increasing knowledge of their condition.

The service is run by a team of specialist respiratory physiotherapists and is supported by a variety of healthcare professionals who contribute to the education component.
At the end of the six weeks, graduates are helped to make a plan to include exercise in their daily life long term. We are able to refer to other community programmes or provide a home programme. The pulmonary rehabilitation programme is provided in a variety of community locations around the borough.

We carry out our assessments at Purley Health Clinic, Parkway Health Centre, Broad Green Centre and Leander Road Primary Care Centre.
