Cardiology Department

The Cardiology Department provides a comprehensive service with inpatient care and outpatient investigation with invasive and non-invasive tests for the people of Croydon
and surrounding areas.

There is a successful interventional cardiology programme for elective and inpatient treatment, with robust clinical governance and audit processes to ensure that we provide a high quality service.

The core philosophy of the unit is to make the patient the centre of the process and to build seamless pathways of care so that their journey and experience through the Cardiology department is as positive as it can be, and as efficient and timely as we can make it.

There are five general cardiology clinics each week, and specialist chest pain, valve, heart failure and pacemaker clinics.

Inpatients are treated in the cardiac zone, which includes a 12 bed coronary care / chest pain unit.

The invasive cardiology service performs over 1000 coronary angiograms, around 500 angioplasty and stent procedures, and 120 permanent pacemaker implantations each year.

Providing high quality care “closer to home” for the people of Croydon is a key part of the service we provide and plans are in place to provide increased contact for patients with chronic conditions, such as heart failure, with health care professionals, and to reduce unplanned hospital admissions.
