School nursing

The school nursing service is a workforce of specialist community public health nurses who co-ordinate public health interventions for school age children.

The team works in local schools and the community.

The team offers:

  • Drop-in sessions
  • National screening programmes
  • Work with individual children who have complex or special needs

The team works in partnership with children, their families, schools as well as other agencies and local services.

Immunisation team

The team provides routine and follow up immunisations according to national schedules to children and young people five to 16 years.

Teams of nurses deliver the universal schools immunisation programme in secondary schools or at community clinics.
