Pulmonary rehabilitation

Pulmonary rehabilitation is provided in a variety of community locations around the borough – in Purley, South Norwood and New Addington.

The pulmonary rehabilitation programme is ten to 12 sessions for patients with chronic lung disease,  usually Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The service is run by a team of specialist respiratory physiotherapists and is supported by a variety of healthcare professionals. The programme educates patients about their condition and how they can manage their illness more effectively.

The team help patients to:

  • Reduce levels of breathlessness in activity
  • Increase their walking distance
  • Manage their lung disease more effectively
  • Reduce anxiety and depression
  • Plan exercise and management after the programme
