Neurology provides in- and out-patient services for all patients with a neurological problem.

Service Overview

The Neurology Services provide consultant-delivered outpatient care for patients with a neurological problem and are supported by a Neurology Nurse Specialist and two Community Epilepsy Nurses.  The clinics are conducted at Croydon University Hospital.

Croydon University Hospital does not have inpatient neurological beds however the neurology department reaches in to the Acute Medical Unit, the Rapid Access Medical Unit and into all the wards providing a 5 day service.  This enables quicker diagnosis, investigation and appropriate management plans.

The neurologists have the following sub-specialist areas which are conducted via the general neurology clinics:

  • Epilepsy (including a first fit service)
  • Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders
  • Neuro-ophthalmology.

We treat

The team has special interest in epilepsy, vascular neurology / stroke and neuro-ophthalmology.  They work closely with the neurophysiology and radiology departments at Croydon to provide timely investigations.

Inpatients who need tertiary hospital support are transferred under the care of the Croydon consultants to St George’s Hospital.

The neurology nurse specialist provides education and support to patients in the acute setting and provides outpatient support for patients under the care of a Croydon neurologist.
