Service overview

We have specialist interest in sports injuries and joint replacements. Specialist clinics are run from Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital. Hip and Knee surgery is performed by Croydon surgeons at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC) an internationally recognised centre of excellence.

We treat

The majority of orthopaedic surgeries are day cases and performed in the day surgery unit.  Joint replacement surgery is performed at the EOC.  The centre is an internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for joint surgery providing the highest quality, patient-centred experience.

The department works closely with other specialities within the trust. In particular there are close links with the rheumatology and physiotherapy departments to ensure patients receive comprehensive and joined up care.  Treatment includes:

    • Sports injuries – ACL, PCL and multi-ligament surgery
    • Keyhole/arthroscopic surgery include Meniscus repair
    • Young adult joint preserving surgery (osteotomy)
    • Joint replacement surgery (partial and total knee replacements)

  • Spinal surgery
    • Pain procedures (epidurals)
    • Lumbar spine procedures such as Spinal decompression & discectomy
    • Spinal fracture treatment (Kyphoplasty)

    • Keyhole surgery/arthroscopic
    • Shoulder replacements
  • Hand and elbow surgery

How to refer

All of our services are accessible on the NHS e-Referral service (formerly known as Choose and Book) and this is our preferred method of referral. We also operate a referring clinician Advice and Guidance service accessible through the same method.
