The system focuses on working with families, teachers and those who regularly interact with a child to support them various settings such as at school or at home.

Within a school setting, a Croydon Health Services therapist:

  • Works closely with the special educational needs coordinator (SENCo) to discuss the communication and/or feeding, needs of all children or individual children
  • Hosts a termly advice clinic for parents and staff to speak directly with a therapist for specific advice
  • Works with teachers to to reduce the impact of speech, language, communication and feeding difficulties on a child’s life and their ability to achieve their full potential

In some cases parents may choose to attend or children may be invited to an outpatient clinic for a full assessment or additional support and advice.

Therapists work across three main groups, each with a dedicated manager:

  • Early years -  for children up to the end of reception class
  • Primary -  for children up to the end of year six
  • Secondary plus -for children and young adults (up to 25 years if in education)
