The Croydon breastfeeding support team provides work in both the hospital and community.

The team ensure mothers in Croydon receive the support, information and encouragement they need to both initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies.    

The Trust is actively working with the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative to ensure a high standard of infant feeding.

Baby cafés

Mums and pregnant mums can attend any Baby Cafe for support with breastfeeding or just to meet other mothers.  There are Baby Cafes in various Croydon locations; one on each day of the working week.  A full list can be found here.

Mum2Mum Peer Support Programme

The programme offers an enhanced breastfeeding support service for mothers in New Addington & Fieldway and Waddon areas only.  Enhanced support includes antenatal and postnatal home visits, antenatal breastfeeding workshops, linking pregnant and new mothers with ‘peer supporters’ and drop-in sessions.


The team provides a range of support services for mums working closely with the maternity department, children’s centres and voluntary organisations, to engage mums and provide information and encouragement to start and continue breastfeeding.  


e-Learning course for GPs

As part the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) to support mothers and part of this includes an e-learning package for GPs.

The aim of this short course is to support GPs when talking through feeding plans with expectant mothers.  This online training aims to provide GPs with the necessary information to support a breastfeeding mother – particularly one who may be experiencing problems.

This training will equip GPs with:

  • basic understanding of how breastfeeding works
  • knowledge of how to treat common breast conditions (mastitis, thrush, etc.)
  • reliable source to prescribe drugs for breastfeeding mothers
