Stop Smoking Appointments

How do I quit before surgery

Stop before the op! The benefits of stopping smoking are especially marked if you are due to have surgery: stopping smoking before an operation and general anaesthesia can reduce the risk of complications both during and after surgery.

It is recommended that smokers quit at least 8 weeks prior to surgery to minimise the risk of complications, but stopping smoking even just a few days before admission to hospital can significantly reduce some of the risks. Carbon monoxide and nicotine are cleared from the body in a matter of days, helping to speed up recovery, so it is never too late to stop.

Croydon University Hospital has clinics and stands which run throughout the week if you would like help to stop smoking  or simply want some information.  Contact Rose or Ebi on 020 8401 3000 ext: 5906.

What do I do if I haven’t received my appointment yet?

Appointments are arranged via the helpline or with the
adviser directly.

What do I do if I want to change or cancel an appointment?

If you arranged to see an adviser via the helpline on 0800 019 8570, please
call back to advise of any changes or cancellations. If you arranged an
appointment directly with the adviser, please contact the adviser (if you are
unable to do this, call the helpline and we will get a message to them on your
behalf).

What should I bring to my appointment?

If you arranged to see an adviser by calling the helpline
and were sent a pre-registration questionnaire, please complete that and bring
it to your first appointment; otherwise you do not need to bring anything with
you.

What time should I arrive for my appointment?

There are no pre-appointment procedures, so please arrive
for the time of your appointment.
