The patient's journey through the Eye Unit

Please allow plenty of time for your eye appointment as you may need a number of tests to be carried out.

When you arrive please book in at the Eye Unit reception desk. Your arrival time will be noted on the front of your notes to allow them to be placed in the correct time order, since there may be more than one patient with the same appointment time as yours.

  • You may be seen first by a nurse who will check your eyesight.
  • You may be asked about your general health.
  • You may have eye drops put into your eyes which means you won’t be able to drive for several hours afterwards
  • You may have one or more tests done before you see the doctor, for example a visual fields tests
  • You may need more that one type of test

We will do all we can to ensure there are no delays but please be aware that there may be different clinics running at the same time so someone who arrived after you may be seen before you if they are attending another clinic.

If you feel you have been waiting too long please talk to a member of the Eye Unit staff so they can help you.
