Ophthalmology - Eye Unit

The service provides outpatient clinics and day-case surgery at Croydon University Hospital and outpatient clinics at Purley Hospital (when the refurbishment is complete in the summer of 22013).

We have modern imaging techniques such as OCT, Visual Field and Pachemetry tests.  Croydon provides an AMD Service (Age-Related Macular Degeneration) and provide Lucentis injections in the injection suite which is located within the eye unit.  This service is a one stop clinic whereby, lucentis would be available on the day should a follow up injection be required.

Casualty/Hot Clinic

There is an emergency service within the eye unit which is open from 9 00am – 11 30am and 2 00 – 3 30pm.  This service is for urgent patients only, and patients are triaged by a nurse and if necessary, seen by a doctor.  Should review be required after these hours, patients are seen at St George’s Hospital.

Paediatrics

Croydon also provides a paediatric service for children ranging between 0 – 16 years old.  These clinics are led by the orthoptists and a paediatric consultant.
