Endoscopy

The refurbished and modernised endoscopy unit was officially opened in October 2009.

The refurbishment was made possible by a generous donation of £1.4 million by Croydon Colorectal Cancer Charity and legacy money.

The diagnostic unit features:

• A reception area which offers patients, friends and family a comfortable and relaxing area to wait
• Four consultation rooms that provide extra privacy and dignity for patients
• A recovery area
• A comfortable and well equipped area for patients waiting to go home
  The latest endoscopy equipment.

The unit sees approximately 11, 000 patients a year and is open from 8am to 8.30pm Monday to Friday.

The unit performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as Oesophageal-gastro-duodenoscopy, Colonoscopy, Bronchoscopy and Endoscopic-Retrograde-Cholangio-Pancreatograph (ERCP) in the nearby X-Ray Department.

People are asked to arrive at 8.00 for morning list and 12.45 for the afternoon lists and 16.30 for the evening lists.

All Endoscopy Services are provided from the Endoscopy unit except for ERCP which is done in X-Ray Department and an out of hours upper GI bleeding service for emergencies, provided from Main Theatres.
