Diabetic Retinopathy Screening
The Diabetic Retinal Screening Service covers a diabetic population of more than 16,000 people.
The aim of the service is to reduce the risk of sight loss amongst people with diabetes by the prompt identification and effective treatment if necessary of sight threatening diabetic retinopathy.
The screening process is quick and simple and uses the latest digital cameras. After the appointment results are sent to the patient and the GP and if necessary onward referral to the hospital eye service.
The screening is carried out at Croydon University Hospital and will resume at Purley Hospital when refurbishment is complete in the summer of 2013.
