The Trust has begun the exciting £11.15million refurbishment of the Purley War Memorial Hospital using government funding.

For the latest updates on progress see the spring newsletter.

Currently the only service available on this site is the Urgent Care Centre. (UCC)

Please note there will be no access to X-rays on site until spring 2013. People who attend the UCC with a condition that needs X-rays or other diagnostic imaging tests will be redirected to the Urgent Care Centre at Croydon University Hospital (open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week)

We are sorry for any inconvenience but are sure local people will agree it will be worth it worth it once the new healthcare facility reopens fully in the summer of 2013.

Alternative services for people with urgent but not life threatening conditions can be found at:

Minor Injuries Unit (MIU), Parkway Health Centre, New Addington

Urgent Care Centre (UCC) at Croydon University Hospital

Edridge Road Community Health Centre

The Purley based blood testing service has temporarily relocated to Keston House Medical Practice in Brighton Road and is held every Friday from 08.30 – 17.00 with a break for lunch between 12.30 – 13.30.

All appointments for Keston House will continue to be booked via the Trust’s Phlebotomy Department and patients are asked to call 0208 401 3420 to make an appointment for this service.

The Croydon University Hospital walk-in blood testing service will continue as normal.

What is happening now?

We are working with private contractor, Miller HPS, to completely redesign and refurbish the existing out-patient and diagnostic areas and bring the currently disused wards back into use as clinics and GP practice.

This work is being carried out under the national Procure21plus framework. For more details see their website.

To make sure we can carry out the work to schedule we have moved all out-patient clinics, therapy services and diagnostic services from Purley hospital to other locations  - most clinics will be re-provided at Croydon University Hospital.

We are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause but many local people we have spoken to have said they understand that doing it this way means the project can be delivered quickly and safely.

Public Engagement in design process:

Local people have had their first view of the proposed designs for the £11.15 million refurbishment of Purley Hospital.

An artist’s impression of how the building may look by summer 2013 was also unveiled.

These images can be seen on the right of this page

On hand to explain both the design and the programme of building works were members of the Trust’s Procure21 framework partners Millers HPS and the Trust’s own estates experts, Dominic Conlin, the Director of Strategy and Purley project manager Cerian Henshaw .

Feedback from residents was mainly positive but almost all raised concerns about car parking provision both on the site and nearby.

Whilst there is no capacity in this scheme or on site presently to provide additional car parking spaces, the Trust acknowledges these concerns and that there is no easy solution.

The Purley and Woodcote Residents Association has offered to set up a local initiative to address the problem. The Trust is very supportive of this approach and will work with Croydon Council, Highways, TFL, local businesses and the local community to explore options for additional car parking for hospital staff and patients.

We want to make sure we make best use of the space - lead clinicians, staff and patient representatives have been fully involved in the design and planning to date.

Please do send in your thoughts and suggestions to the Purley Project Manager:
