The children’s ward was today full of queens, cats and the Lord Mayor of London (better known as Dick Whittington), as pantomime stars stole the stage on the children’s ward today.
The Dick Whittington production, which was performed by Starlight Children’s Foundation, was a great opportunity for the children to boo and hiss at the evil King Rat, cheer for Dick Whittington and provided a welcome distraction from within the hospital ward.
Play specialist, Victoria Hill said: “Every year we look forward to the arrival of Starlight’s panto, a great dose of fun for our young patients, a fantastic distraction from the pain and anxiety they may be feeling and extremely enjoyable for all the staff as well.
This year has been no exception as children, family and staff have all thoroughly enjoyed the performance.”
Alice Fitzwarren, one of the four actors in Dick Whittington, said, “The panto is jam-packed with fun and entertainment and our focus is on providing a really engaging show that will keep every audience member completely absorbed!”
CUH is one of the first of the 100 hospital’s and hospices Starlight is visiting as part of their summer tour.

Stars of the panto are joined by children on the ward.
Starlight Children’s Foundation provides entertainment in hospitals and hospices and grants wishes to seriously and terminally ill children. For more information on Starlight, visit www.starlight.org.uk.
