How Croydon Health Services cares for you in your home after a stroke

Last year, over 200 patients were treated primarily for a stroke on Croydon Health Services (CHS) specialist Stroke Unit. Rehabilitative stroke care is also provided by the Trust in the homes and local community of Croydon’s residents.

Trust in life-saving first as cardiac arrest technology rolled out across organisation

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust is the first NHS Trust in England to roll out EZ-IO devices to every cardiac arrest trolley in the organisation. This represents one of the two major technological changes that the Trust has championed to improve care and save lives at Croydon University Hospital. The Trust is also now using mechanical CPR machines to deliver chest compressions to patients during resuscitation.

Panto stars give out Toys for Joy donations

Stars from Fairfield Halls’ Christmas pantomime Snow White visited Croydon University Hospital yesterday to spread a little Christmas cheer. Former Pop Idol winner Gareth Gates who plays Prince Charming, Whitney White (Snow White) and Quinn Patrick (the Dame) spent time with young patients on the children’s ward distributing toys as part of the Croydon Advertiser’s ‘Toys for Joy’ appeal.

HIV Awareness Week

Staff at Croydon Health Services raised awareness about HIV testing this week as part of the celebrations for National HIV Testing Week (23-30 November) in the run up to World AIDS Day on 1 December. Croydon has among the highest rates of HIV in the UK, with an estimated one in every 170 people living with the virus, compared to one in every 300 in 2002.

UK first for Croydon Health Services with international IT award

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust has been recognised as a leader in IT practice in healthcare in the UK by the international health information body HIMSS Europe. In a first for the NHS in England, the Trust has been awarded one of the highest grades of award for its use of IT systems to improve patient care that HIMSS Europe can bestow. Croydon patients can now get ‘fast tracked’ emergency treatment via their GP through the Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC) unit at Croydon University Hospital. A call from their doctor during their GP appointment can mean a very ill patient can be receiving high quality hospital care the same day they went to their GP without having to go through A&E.
