What we are, What we do

Croydon Health Services is part of the National Health Service (NHS).  There are over 600 NHS Trusts.

Croydon Health Services was formed in July 2010 with the integration of  Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust with Croydon Community Health Services.

The Trust provides hospital and community health care for people living in the London Borough of Croydon and surrounding areas.

Our work is based on the strategic direction established by the Department of Health which sets overall policy on all health issues and is responsible for the provision of health services through the NHS.

Locally the Trust works alongside NHS Croydon which commissions services and is responsible for all primary care in Croydon.  Primary care includes services provided by dentists, opticians and family doctors.

Accountability for health services lies with individual organisations and ultimately NHS London, the Strategic Health Authority, which reports directly to the Department of Health.

The Trust works closely with other NHS organisations and service providers, mostly local but in other regions as and when the need arises. For example, a patient’s care may be shared with another Trust, or a patient may have moved to another part of the country.
