Mike Bell, Chairman
Mike Bell joined the Trust as Interim Chairman in January 2013 and was confirmed in the role substantively in April 2013.
Mike is the director of a research and consultancy company, MBARC Ltd, which works with central and local government on issues relating to social and financial exclusion and specialises in working with marginalised communities.
Prior to establishing his company he was the chief executive of a national charity supporting community-based advice and legal services across the UK.
He has also previously worked with the NHS in a number of roles.
Mike is currently the chair of the London Mental Health & Employment Partnership, on the board of the London Mental Health Programme and vice-chair of the London Health Observatory.
Executive Directors
John Goulston, Chief Executive
John Goulston took up his post as interim Chief Executive on 1 May 2012 and was confirmed in the post substantively in February 2013.
Prior to this John was Regional Director of Provider Development, and Programme Director of the London Programme for IT at NHS London.
From March 2008 to January 2011, John was Chief Executive at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals Trust following a secondment as acting chief executive.
Over the period 2002 to 2007, John was Acting Chief Executive, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Finance at Barts and The London NHS Trust.
John was also Director of Finance at the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust from 1995 to 2002.
Overall John has 20 years’ experience as a Director of Finance and Chief Executive with NHS providers. John also has six years’ experience working for Coopers & Lybrand; first in the audit and then in the healthcare consultancy practice.

Azara Mukhtar, interim Director of Finance
Azara Mukhtar took up the position of Interim Director of Finance & Information in mid-March 2013.
Azara was initially seconded from NHS London and then the NHS Trust Development Authority.
She has held a number of senior finance roles at NHS London, Barts and The London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ including a 8 month period as the Interim Director of Finance at Barts.
Azara is a CIMA qualified accountant and started her NHS career in April 1995. After graduating from Dundee University she joined KPMG for a three year training contract working with a wide range of audit clients.

Zoe Packman, Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals
Zoe began her nurse training at Barts in the 1980s before starting her nursing career at St Mark’s colorectal hospital.
She has worked at a number of London Trusts and developed interests in patient experience, quality and discharge planning. She is also a champion of the productive ward project and “lean” healthcare initiatives.
She was most recently Deputy Director of Nursing at St George’s before joining Croydon Health Services in September 2011
Tony Newman-Sanders, Medical Director
Tony Newman-Sanders is a Consultant Radiologist with a special interest in musculoskeletal imaging.
He joined the Trust in 1998 having initially trained in Medicine at Cambridge University, Barts and the London and in Renal Medicine and Radiology at St Mary’s Paddington.
In 2007 he was appointed as the first Clinical Director in Diagnostics and Clinical Support Services. In 2009 he became Clinical Director for Emergency Care Services.
Since 2006 he has also worked on secondment to the Department of Health as Clinical Lead for Picture Archiving and Communication services and Chairs the Informatics Committee of the National Clinical Advisory Group.

Michael Burden, Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development
Michael first joined the Trust on secondment from Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust where he held the same position and was confirmed substantively in the role in April 2013.
Michael's NHS career began at St Helier Hospital training as a general nurse, after which he undertook further training to qualify as a registered mental health nurse.
He then altered his career path to take up a position in HR management at Mid-Surrey Health Authority before taking up posts in both acute and primary care. Michael also spent three years in a very senior position at the Royal College of Nursing.
Michael joined the Trust in October 2011.
Dominic Conlin, Director of Strategy and Commercial Development
Dominic joined the Trust in January 2012.
Dominic graduated from Bristol University, where he read History, in 1987. He started his career in the National Health Service in 1988 and has over 20 years experience in a number of policy, commissioning and acute general management roles.
His most recent post was as Managing Director of the South West London Acute Commissioning Unit and prior to that he was Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Strategic Commissioning for Croydon PCT.
Mike Ralph, Director of Estates and Facilities
Formerly Director of Estates and Facilities at Great Ormond Street, Mike joined Croydon Health Services on 1st April 2009.
He is a Chartered mechanical engineer and a fellow of the ImechE and IHEEM. He has been in the health service for 20 years and has worked at regional and national level on various engineering and estates based initiatives. He leads the work to maintain and improve our physical assets. He is executive lead for Fire, Health and Safety, and Security.
Non-Executive Directors
Steven Corbishley
Steven joined the Trust on 1 April 2013.
Steven is a chartered accountant and has worked for the National Audit Office since 1987.
He is currently a Director at the NAO and his recent responsibilities have been to audit HM Treasury, the Department of Health and the former Department for Trade and Industry.
Until 1st April 2013, Steven was also a non-executive member of NHS South East London Joint Primary Care Trusts Boards where he was also its Audit Committee Chair.
Prior to this, he was a Non-Executive Director for NHS Lewisham.
Godfrey Allen
Godfrey Allen joined the Trust in January 2013.
Godfrey is the former Chief Executive of the national employment charity, Apex Trust. A local magistrate and Chairman of Governors at South Thames College of Further Education (incorporating Merton College), he has a keen interest in developing local public services. He was formerly a non executive director for Wandsworth PCT.
Godfrey is a Trustee of several charities and a former CEO in both the public and private sectors, Godfrey is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors, Chartered Institute of Management and the RSA.
Godfrey is a regular radio, press and television contributor on management, crime and current affairs. He also holds a master's degree in public service management from South Bank University.
John Thompson
John Thompson joined the Trust in January 2013.
He has held a series of high profile jobs across Whitehall including positions at the Department of Health working on AIDS, dental policy, waiting list initiatives and pharmacy and prescribing.
As a civil servant Mr Thompson was responsible for funding and nurturing voluntary organisations, which either represented vulnerable groups or provided services for them. He worked closely with organisations such as RADAR, the Terrence Higgins Trust, NACRO and Crime Concern.
As Head of the Crime Prevention Agency and Crime Reduction Unit at the Home Office he was involved in creating community safety partnerships and other major initiatives to reduce crime, including burglary, vehicle crime, and violence in hospitals.
Mr Thompson is a lay trustee of the College of Optometrists and was the Clerk to the Independent Inquiry into a Professional Body for Pharmacy (2008) and is a former non-executive director at NHS Sutton and Merton and NHS Croydon.
Mary Clarke - Associate Non-Executive Director
Mary Clarke joined the Trust in January 2013
Mary is a registered nurse by background and is also a qualified District Nurse and Practice Nurse. She also has an MBA in Health Service Management. Mary has worked in the NHS for over 35 years starting her career as an Enrolled Nurse in 1976. She has held many positions within the NHS one of the most recent being the Director of Community Health Services/Deputy CEO with NHS City and Hackney.
Most recently, Mary has worked at NHS London as the Associate Chief Nurse and Lead for Equalities for 13 months. Mary has previously been a member of a PCT Board and the Professional Executive Committee nurse for City and Hackney PCG. As the Board Nurse/AHP member, Mary felt privileged to represent Nurses and Allied Health Professionals (AHP) on the Board ensuring that professionalism, support and advice was provided.
Nationally and locally, Mary has been actively involved in supporting the work on nursing and AHP developments and the equality and diversity agenda and until September 2006 was the chair of the Department of Health, Chief Nursing Officer, Black and Minority Ethnic Groups Advisory Group.
Mary was awarded a CBE in the Queens New Year Honors List in January 2005 for Services to Nursing.
Jamal Butt - Associate Non-Executive Director
Jamal has over 20 years experience in a variety of senior strategic and commercial roles within Boots UK.
He is a Pharmacist, and was educated at the London School of Pharmacy (University of London) and also at the Said Business School (Oxford University).
He has experience and expertise in leading large change management programmes across the UK, and has an extensive network of relationships within the NHS and private organisations.
He is a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical society and has served on Local Pharmaceutical committees. He is an active supporter of the MacMillan cancer charity and is regularly involved with several events each year.
He is currently Head of Pharmacy for Boots UK, and is responsible for the development of innovative, integrated healthcare models.
