PIP Implants
24 January 2012

Our Medical Director, Tony Newman Sanders has the following advice on PIP Implants:

“We would like to reassure women that Croydon Health Services NHS Trust (and previously as Mayday) have never used PIP Implants.

“Any women who have had reconstructive work at Croydon University Hospital are not affected by the recent issue relating to this product.

“Women who are concerned that they may have had a PIP breast implant fitted elsewhere, can find some useful information on the NHS choices website. Alternatively they should contact the clinic that undertook the procedure or see their GP.

The latest advice from the NHS and plastic surgery experts is that women with PIP breast implants do not need to have them removed, unless they have symptoms such as pain and tenderness. There is no link to cancer and no clear evidence of an increased risk of harm compared to other brands of breast implants.
